Clan Yama Kaminari celebrated the elevation of Roxanne de St. Luc at this year’s AEthelmearc AEcademy, November 10, 2012. Mistress de St. Luc was recognized for her skill and teaching of the medieval fine arts, including Japanese painting and costuming.

Master Morien ap Rhys (aka Bun’ami), who has mentored Mistress Roxanne for several years and expanded (among many aspects) her knowledge of period pigments and techniques, conducted the vigil outside of the event building in two yurts erected for the occasion.

The reception yurt was festively decorated and offered the epicurean delights of Master Morien ap Rhys (Bun’ami), Lady Rowena Caithness, THL Sthurrim Caithness, Lady Bridget the Tinker’s Wife, and Lord Kintarou (squire of Sir Ogami Akira), just to name a few.

The Vigil Yurt featured a 18th hanging scroll of Tomoe Gozen, period candle stands, and several exampled of Mistress Roxanne’s artwork. Squires of Sir Ogami Akira guarded Mistress Roxanne, accompanied by members and friends of Clan Yama Kaminari. THL Caillen and Lady Bridget organized and assisted Mistress Roxanne as she sat vigil.

Sir Ogami Akira, Master Morien ap Rhys (Bun’ami), Duke Sir Christopher Rawlyns OP, and Duchess Morgen of Rye spoke for Mistress Roxanne as The Four Worthies. The medallion was provided by Mistress Roxanne’s much older sister, Mistress Una de St. Luc, OP. The Cloak was designed and made by Lord Ishiyama Gentarou Yori’ie and Lady Hara.

Mistress Roxanne de St. Luc wishes to thank everyone who contributed to making her day wonderful! She is honored to be part of Clan Yama Kaminari.

The three-layered outfit consisted of a green dragonfly patterned kosode under a white-on-white silk jacquard kosode. These layers were in turn highlighted by the addition of a heavy silk brocade uchikake in teal and gold.

The star of the show, however, was a padded uwagi in purple featuring a laurel wreath in an explosion of applique. Each leaf was constructed from fabrics donated by friends and family of Mistress de St. Luc.
