| Cecily of Whitehaven is an English lady living in the 16th century. (OK, so she doesn't quite look like an English lady in the picture, but hey, a gal's gotta have some fun!) She likes Flemish clothing, Japanese arts and is intrigued by rumors of this substance called "chocolate." Because she lives in a port town, she gets to meet many interesting people -- it seems a lot of people travel in her day and age ... She has met Vikings, Italians, French, Mongolians, Scots, Celts, Japanese and everything in between.
Cecily will read anything she can get her hands on, a habit that amuses her father, a shipping merchant. Her mother wishes she'd spend more time learning to keep house. She is the youngest of her family, however, and her brothers tend to indulge her. Her sisters wish she'd just do her part of the chores. She sews (a little), does needlework (a bit), likes her glass of beer or ale (now and again) and recently has put her hand to the Oriental art of sumi-e. She knows the town's printer and has even published a few little pamphlets written by some of her friends. Cecily has been adopted by a Japanese warrior (the story of their meeting is quite complex), and has become one of his Clan -- Clan Yama Kaminari. She has no great goals in life, but simply wants to spend time with her friends, learn everything she can, and have some fun along the way. |
